AFTER WORK CLUB!!

this last week has seen me return to a favorite club water, new membership in hand to try and tempt a few scaly ones out,and to be honest it was some off the best fishing I've had for a while, real strong fish ,great sport and good preparation for my forthcoming 48 hr trip.
Monday saw me on the members lake in the pouring rain, what i like to call Forrest gump rain, those who have seen the film will know what i mean! i was sat there totally despondent with the conditions to be honest ,just about hanging in there when a twinkle of blue sky arrived about 7.35pm followed by a huge rainbow in all its glory, and although there wasn't a pot of gold at the end of it ,there was a stunning mid double common, well happy under the circumstances and very welcome.this common had a spot on its right flank devoid of scales and i affectionately named it bald spot!

Tuesday saw me return around the same time but in much  better weather, bright and dry with a nice cool breeze,so i decided to fish the same swim, and i put both rods out on the same spots as the night before,i started getting liners straight away and i was optimistic to say the least.six or seven liners later about 6.30 the Rh rod was away and after a strong tussle another glorious common graced the bank.this beauty weighed in at 17lb 5oz,result.

the problem with the productive spot was the backhand cast whilst leaning out over the edge of the swim so i thought that on wednesday i would approach the spot from the other side.
I arrived that evening in the lovely sunshine and set up my gear in the new swim on the other side of the lake.I then put my left hand rod in the general area of the spot and 12 freebies over the ever decreasing circles the lead had made. The right hand rod went along the margin in the area where i had seen a large group of fish whilst walking along the causeway, again a good handful of freebies was introduced.
What happened next was comedy gold! I had a good tench  from the left hand spot that i had left in the net to take a phone call and as i put the phone away the right hand rod erupted into life and battle with an angry resident ensued! proper strong fish ,at this time i thought ,hold on ,net got a fish in already!!, panic! so i called to the next swim and asked for a net, luckily they didn't hesitate to come to my assistance, and a cracking mirror was soon on the mat.
I gave the lad some hook baits after he asked what they were and told him a few tips,he was well happy.Shortly after this my time was up so i thanked him and his mates and headed for home, gagging to get back on Saturday for a day session.
